Architect - Austin Smith Lord & Weedon Partnership
Main Contractor - Carillion Building plc
Value - £4.6m
Description - Red Architectural was responsible for constructing the façades of this 200,000 sq ft mixed-use commercial office development next door to the key gateway to the city of Manchester. The 12 storey Three Piccadilly Place is the latest phase in a development for Argent that will provide homes, shops, parking and a hotel in addition to a Grade A office block.
Due to the restricted nature of the site, the live load movements of the structural floor slabs and the proximity of the city Metro, Red Architectural elected to fabricate a large proportion of the curtain walling off-site using Schüco's unitised SU 90HM system. This was installed from the floor plates using small floor mounted cranes to hoist each fully glazed panel onto brackets which were pre-positioned on the slab edges.
The architect specified the use of Tecu-brass rainscreen panels, consisting of an alloy of copper and zinc which will naturally weather over time to a reddish gold colour, thus mirroring the glazed terracotta façades of the adjacent Victorian fire station. The remaining elevations feature the same rainscreen panels with Schüco AWS 60 fixed light floor-to-ceiling windows together with others which were factory glazed and installed into precast concrete panels.

Value - £4.5m
Description - A £4.5m envelope package was undertaken by Red Architectural on three high specification office buildings on this prime site in Crawley, Sussex. The two and three storey buildings for SEGRO incorporate a combination of Schüco FW 60+ curtain walling and Eternit rainscreen. A key design feature installed by Red is the bespoke tubular cladding which was fabricated and assembled off site and then craned into position to provide unique screening to the stair towers and plant enclosures.

Architect - Allies & Morrison
Main Contractor - Carillion Building plc
Value - £4.5m
Description - Set in 125 acres of what was originally an RAF base spanning two world wars, the original research building has been refurbished and adapted to provide high quality office and leisure space. In addition, two new buildings providing high specification office space have been constructed around a new square, incorporating the frame of a World War 1 airship hanger as a centrepiece.
This award winning, £38 million business park developed by SEGRO represented a £4.5 million contract for Red Architectural. It comprises bespoke Schüco curtain walling, designed to match exactly the previous pre-war steel windows to the original research building and terracotta and aluminium cladding to the two new office buildings.
The terracotta cladding was selected to provide a high-quality durable material which is visually sympathetic with the refurbished properties. Unusually, the terracotta rainscreen cladding was fixed directly to the curtain walling providing excellent air tightness results when site tested.

Description - Project Duo is a 20,000 sq ft office development for SEGRO. It comprises four office buildings and a café pavilion which create a self-contained campus of civic quality within the IQ Farnborough Business Park.
The use of a mixture of feature precast concrete panels and Schüco FW60+ curtain walling plus Red's own Fluvista aluminium rainscreen to the façades provides four-storey office accommodation of exceptional quality; the building also benefits from Schüco RS 65 doors and its overall appearance has been further enhanced by extensive landscaping. The development is supported by a 7-storey car park.
The requirements of the tenant were very demanding and the success of the deal hinged on the ability to deliver the office accommodation only 69 weeks after signing the contract. This required a supreme combined effort by the architects, the main contractor and Red Architectural, but the quality of the finished product speaks for itself.
