We formed a separate company to focus on the application of photovoltaics because our view is that PV is already impacting on the way that buildings are designed and we expect its influence to grow yet more pronounced in the future.

We expect that BIPV (building integrated photovoltaics) will become a standard feature of many façades especially now that the government has introduced the Feed-In Tariff which allows the owners of a building to generate a current return of typically 7-8% from a PV installation.

In some cases, when a building is being refurbished, PV systems will simply be add-ons but we are convinced that many, if not the majority of, future newbuild projects will routinely include a BIPV and/or a PV enabled facade.

Since our policy is to provide customers with a complete package,every element of which is tightly controlled in terms of quality and operational efficiency, it is important that Red possesses the in-house skills to deliver and commission PV technology without needing to call in outside suppliers.
