Westfield, the largest retail led mixed-use urban regeneration project ever undertaken in the UK and arguably the largest currently under construction in Europe features Tecu brass shingles fixed back to the face of Paroc panels spanning up to 8m x 1200 between primary steel columns – all designed and currently being installed by Red Architectural. More than 20,000m2 of composite panels specially treated to avoid run off from the 7,000m2 brass rainscreen are being installed over a 36-week period. Red is currently designing a bespoke housing system to accommodate the giant electronic advertising hoardings to be fitted within the cladding zones. The privately funded £1.4 billion development in Stratford, East London will sit between the key Olympic venues and the Athletes Village and is due for completion in Spring 2011.

Description

Red Architectural are involved in a £2.3 million contract to provide the glazed facades to this latest pharmaceutical production facility in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The facades are being constructed using Schuco’s FW60+ curtain walling system with high performance double glazed units. A unique feature of the south elevation to this four storey building is a twin-skin façade which provides significant energy savings by incorporating a double glazed inner wall together with a single glazed outer skin separated by a 1.0m wide protected airspace. Within this cavity are electrically operated venetian blinds, mounted on the underside of maintenance access walkways which are remotely controlled by the building management system.
The air within the cavity can be purged by the natural stack effect of automatically opening high and low level dampers located behind fixed blade louvres.
